Closet Visit: Victoria Mesenbrink

Victoria Mesenbrink is one hard working babe and is one of Portland’s go to creative consultants, specializing in styling and art direction. She has styled for Nike, Levis, Macy’s, and Aritzia to name a few of her clients. We spent a morning with Victoria and her adorable son Enzo, most of our time was spent in her closet that her husband graciously built her - and no it doesn’t even fit everything. She has a another closet in her home as well as in her studio, jealous yet? We are! Her daily uniform consists of waxed denim or the perfect midi skirt and knit grey sweater and a leather and her L.A.M.B. ankle boots. Utility is the bottom line when it comes to her everyday whether it’s chasing after Enzo or styling a photo shoot, she has to be able to move and move she does!

1. Who is your style influenced by?

Karl, Grace Coddington, Jenna Lyons, Ashely Owens, and the lady in Portland who is at every important event 70+ years old, big black glasses, and basically the most stylish put together woman I have ever seen. I am not sure of her name, but we sat next to each other at the Hollywood theater a couple years back and I am still regretting not telling her how much I love her style.

2. Favorite places to shop in Portland?

Frances May, Palace, Little Edies, Beam & Anchor (They have an amazing jewelry selection), Table of Contents, Yo Vintage, New Seasons.

3. Describe your style!

Classic, simple, repetitive. I wear a lot of black, white, and grey. I love texture. I think fashion for me needs to be functional. You won't see me on a set in 5 inch heels, I need to be comfortable but I'm not walking around town in sweats unless they are cashmere and / or cdg.

4. What is your winter must have?

Red wine duh...

5. 5 things you can’t live without?

Enzo, leather jacket, ysl #8 lip stain, black skinny jeans, my glasses

6. 3 favorite items in your closet?

English rose jacket my bbf gave me for xmas from Yo Vintage, lamb boots, rag & bone sweater

7. How do you choose what you wear in the morning?

Like I said my style is repetitive so even though I have loads of clothing in my wardrobe I am really only wearing like 10 things so getting ready is easy…something black, leather, boots, kiss enzo goodbye and I'm out the door. A couple years ago I literally got rid of massive amounts of clothing, shoes, accessories. I try to keep it simple for myself. I'm already focusing on what everyone around me is wearing for work all day so I can't fuss too much with myself.

8. Tell us two truths and a lie!

I love taco bell.

A yakuza beet martini is basically the best thing ever.

I hate Ava Genes and it's head chef Joshua McFadden.

9. What is the best thing about your job?

My job is pretty awesome so the best thing is pretty hard to pin point, however I guess I would have to say that the best part is being surrounded by amazingly creative talented co-workers all the time. There is always someone I can learn from on every job.

10. Any shopping advice you have?

Purchase things based on how much you will use them not on the price. No matter how expensive or cheap something is it is wasteful if it doesn't leave your closet.
