Shop Visit: Solestruck

Has the idea of a shoe bar ever crossed your mind? Has the image of one ever been a figment of your imagination? Well look no further than SoleStrucks flagship store located in the black box in Southwest Portland. Super rad shop girl Jillian pointed out to us during the visit that a lot of customers that come in saying “ it looks like a bar” and when you really think about it, what’s wrong with that?! The store has a very downtown city vibe, Jack Nicholson would want to take Anjelica Huston on a shopping spree a la late 1970s. If one is seeking the shoe mayhem that is the store may disapoint, there is a beautifully currated selection of shoes some of which are designed in house, such as brands TBA and Yes! The success that SoleStruck has seen online is amazing we can honestly say we do believe they are ridding the world of ugly shoes, one pair at a time - but lets never forget that company’s mantra started right here in Portland, OR.

Tell us about Solestruck! (How long have you been open, where is it, etc.)

Solestruck has been open at our SW 13th Ave location for two years and the website has been up for nine years!

What is the concept behind the store?

We wanted to make it seem like nothing else in Portland. Walk in and you feel more like you're in a Tokyo Night Club. It's more of a shoe bar than a shoe store.

How are brands found to showcase in flagship store?

We try to pick our favourites from the website, a mix of the newest and the best, a wide variety of things that our customers will love.

What are your top 3 favorite things in the store?

Currently, the Miista 'Amaya'

The TBA 'Assault'

And the Yes 'Kult'

What’s a funny shop story you have?

We definitely get interesting customers. My favourite may have to be the man that insisted I hold a gorgeous brown stone in my hand and rub it as hard as I could. He then proceeded to tell me, "It won't give you any wishes, but I can guarantee you one thing if you keep doing that. You'll get really great at rubbing." Thanks, dude.

Who are solestrucks style icons?

Mary Kate and Ashley, duh. Chloe Sevigny, David Bowie, Daphne Guinness, Kate Lanphear, Idil Tabanca

Tell us two truths and a lie about the store.

We're the best shoe boutique in Portland.

We hate when you bring dogs in our store.

Sometimes we're also a clothing store.

(Just kidding... bring every dog ever. It's the highlight of our day.)

Where does solestruck shop (besides solestruck of course)?

Our neighbors of course! Mojave, Yo! Vintage, Poler, Imogene + Willie, Tanner Goods, Frances May, Steven Allen, Self Edge, all the local places. There are so many great shops in the area, it's so good-- it's dangerous!
