Closet Visit: Justin and Juline

A look into Justin and Juline Machus' Northeast Portland home and their wardrobe. Enjoy! 


1. Who is your style inspired by?

Justin:  I am always a huge fan of Rick Owens. He is a great example of a guy who mixes conceptual style with physical fitness. He also has a uniform… i like that too. 

Juline: Bianca Jagger, Kanye West, Iris Apfel, and most of husband he wears clothes, they don't wear him. 

2. Favorite place(s) to shop in Portland?

Justin: Canoe, Hive, compound for sneakers,  

Juline: Odessa, Ed's House of Gems, and Solestruck. 

3. Describe your style!

Justin: i really like to wear things that let me move fast. I am always on the go. I am not afraid of daring concepts as long as they are within that guideline. 

Juline: Sentimental. I love wearing clothing and jewelry that were given to me, or bought during travels.  

4. What is your winter must have?

Justin: big boots

Juline: Tiger Fleece by Reigning Champ 

5. 5 things you can’t live without?

Justin: my machus private label shirts, my rick owens pants, my y-3 shoes and my 1800’s native american bracelet.  

6. 3 favorite items in your closet right now?

Juline: Machus long sleeve slit tee, Oak leather jacket, Nudie denim 

7. How do you choose what you wear in the morning?

Justin: I get inspired by everything from music to my tumblr feed to architecture.  I get into a groove too, i literally wear the same thing for days on end if i feel comfortable. I dont like trying too hard. I need to be comfortable and ready to ready to move fast. 

Juline:  I'm not a morning person, so I plan ahead. I keep a few outfits on the first few racks of my closet. 

8. Tell us two truths and a lie!

Juline: My favorite television show is Game of Thrones, I don't buy vintage clothing, and I'm a vegan. 

9. What is the best thing about your job? 

Justin: Curating the store and picking the brands. I fucking love it. 

Juline: Collaborating with my husband. Portland is an amazing city to work and play in. We have no limits. 

10. Any shopping advice you have?

Justin: get creative and think out of the box. shopping small is always the best way to go. support your local store! so many stores are like us and have an online store too. that makes it possible to shop small online now too! 

Juline: Less is more! Instead of buying cheap, disposable items, invest in quality things that you can wear with multiple items you already own.
