Store Visit: Flora

Jewelie Randall, owner of Flora is pure magic. She gave us the most welcoming tour of her amazing apothecary and gift store. Flora carries a wide array of handmade and vintage jewelry, antique furniture, home accessories to an amazing selection of apothecary items as well as a tea. For almost 8 years Flora has been downtown and is located on Washington St. and 9th. Randall has started two lines of amazing apothecary: Flora and Wolf's Apothecary. Flora’s line features potions, balms, and perfumes and Wolf’s features candles, erfumes, and ‘Stache wax to name a few of the amazing items. Flora carries several local brands that we love such as Polaris, Favor, and Kiersten Crowley. Jewelie has surrounded herself by an amazing staff that are genuinely knowledgeable and passionate about Flora. From the dreamy white curtains when you enter, to a warm glass of tea they serve to every customer, to the amazing service and considerations it’s hard not to want to hang out in the store all day.

1. Tell us about Flora!

Flora opened in 2007, so we're heading into year 8! Wolf’s was added in just over a year ago, and we are located in the heart of Portland's West End.

We carry carefully curated collections of jewelry, apothecary, all natural bath and body care, cards, candles and accessories.

We feature our house brand Flora with natural botanical balms & perfumes, as well as our other house brand, Wolf’s, of old world apothecary items from ‘Stache Wax to Beauty Elixir.

Our space is also adorned with original paintings by local artists and quirky ornamental trays we import from Paris.

2. What made you decide to open a store front?

Before Flora was opened, I had an herbal body & spirit care product line. It gained a loyal following that was interested in having an outpost for the products, and we found the perfect little spot in the west end and were lucky enough to expand to a larger location a few years later.

3. What is the concept behind the store?

To enchant our customers with beautiful goods in a comfortable space with friendly customer service.

I wanted to create a place where you can find natural and beautiful things within a space where everything is thoughtfully chosen and every artist would be featured every day. Everything I would either want for myself or want to give to someone I adore.

We want our customers to have the confidence that all of our items are chosen for their integrity.

4. How did you come up with the name flora?

I was looking at the shadows cast from morning light. I had been searching for a name for some weeks, trying to find a name that would evoke something lovely, simple and beautiful, a timeless nature that is flexible and can grow with my vision. Then I thought, something like Flora. I spent a few days tumbling around adding words in front of and behind Flora and in the end, the initial inspiration won over.
