Store Visit: Fieldwork Flowers

Meg and Annie had us over to Fieldwork Flower’s new Southwest waterfront location. Meg enthusiastically arranged the best table arrangement - that was filled with beautiful rose and jewel toned flowers casually arranged filling the whole table, we were in love! It is priority for the flowers to be locally sourced as well as seasonal, and 95% of all the flowers follow those guidelines. We feel there is a need for this type of business. The storefront has the most beautiful tiered flower display that can’t help but say welcome, you need some flowers today! The interior of shop is decorated beautifully from the marble shelves that line the wall to the attention to the merchandise that is carried in the store is so thoughtfully selected. Annie’s background in retail and merchandising shines throughout the collaborative brick and mortar location. Fieldwork’s flower stand is located outside the Woodsman market in Southeast Portland, we also stopped by on a sunny day to take in more of their fantastical selection of flowers. Enjoy the interview with Annie and Meg!

1. Tell us about Fieldwork!

Megan opened Fieldwork on January 1, 2010 as a floral workshop after running Sammy's Flowers for several years. The idea was to continue distributing super pretty cuts grown by local flowers farmers that she'd established strong working relationships with over the years. Restaurant owners, taste-makers, and support from floral enthusiasts both online and in the community secured Fieldwork's place in the industry. Fieldwork grew fast and furiously last September when Meg partnered with east coast marketing genius Annie Sanditen. We make huge things happen as a team and we have a ton to look forward to.

2. What made you decide to open a store front?

We have a lot to share! In terms of flowers and lifestyle.

3. What is the concept behind the store?

Keep it simple and lovely but that's all a matter of opinion.

I want a flower farm; I eventually want to 'work in a field' and cultivate the most beautiful flowers ever ever ever. Seemed like an appropriate name.
