Closet Visit: Casey Keasler

Casey Keasler is an interior designer that has made her mark on many loved and recognized interiors throughout Portland. With a large client base ranging from retail spaces like Tanner Goods (both the headquarters in Portland and the L. A. Store), Yoga Pearl’s studio to amazing homes. She has also done some really amazing collaborations from the vessel that she made with Haley Ann Robinson for Madewell and the Leather Hex Sling chair that she designed with Eric Trine. Casey is just about as handy as they come. She is a skilled woodworker, lighting designer, upholsterer and a plant lover. She is also a partner in Mazama, a ceramics brand based in Portland that makes the perfect vessels to entertain with! We spent a rainy afternoon with Casey in her cozy 350 sq. ft apartment sharing delicious hibiscus and gin cocktail’s that she was working on for the Smith Tea and Mazama collaboration, snacking on macaroons, checking out her newest interior project (it’s killer) and playing dress up. It was no surprise that Casey’s wardrobe was as well curated and intentional like her astonishly spacious-feeling and impeccably designed apartment. Enjoy the interview and photos of her beautiful space and her smart wardrobe!

1. Who is your style influenced by?

In the interiors world, Jessica Helgerson, Barbara Bestor and Emily Henderson. In fashion, Glenda Goldwater, Georgie O’Keefe, Gretchen Jones (have you read Neutral Territory?) and my friends are always coming up with interesting ways to dress.

2. Favorite place(s) to shop in Portland?

Yo Vintage and Palace for vintage. I love Frances May for anything special and Madewell for my everyday basics.

3. Describe your style!

I’m one part Southern belle, one part tomboy and one part west coast girl. I should make up a cocktail with those three elements. I dress for my day. I’m on my feet all the time and spend a lot of time trying to make other things look a certain way so when working I don’t want to worry about what I’m wearing.

4. What is your spring must have?

Peep toe Loeffler Randall booties with a chunky heel.

5. 5 things you can’t live without?

my iPhone, a notebook to jot things down and sketch, sunscreen, lip stuff (gloss, stick, you name it I usually carry it 3-4 at a time), the wonderful people in my life.

6. 3 favorite items in your closet?

Right this second, black high waist skinny jeans, vintage denim jacket, black lace granny panties.

7. How do you choose what you wear in the morning?

By the day I’m about to have.

8. Tell us two truths and a lie!

I love to travel. My real name is Casey. I have a taco bell gift card in my wallet.

9. What is the best thing about your job?

To look back and realize I’ve been doing this for 15 years and it’s exactly what I want to be doing. I love every minute of it.

10. Any shopping advice you have?

Buy what you love. If you don’t know what you love, spend some time figuring that out.
